Sand and stone

Posted on April 3, 2011 at 5:48 PM

Two friends Ashfak and Ahmed were walking through the desert, as the sun was beating down on their heads, and they were thirsty for water they began to argue. The argument got more and more heated and eventually Ashfak struck Ahmed across the face.Ahmed felt hurt inside, but without anything to say, he wrote in the sand: "Today, my best friend slapped me in the face."

They kept on walking, until eventually they came across an oasis, where they decided to stop and bathe. Ahmed jumped in and began to wash, while Ashfak sat back and relaxed. Suddenly Ahmed began to scream and shout, he had developed a cramp and was having difficulty keeping his head above water, he was drowning.

Ashfak dived in after him, and brought him gently to shore. When Ahmed recovered from the shock, he scratched a message on a nearby stone:

"Today, my best friend saved my life"

Ashfak who had saved and slapped his best friend Ahmed, asked him, "Why, after I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now you write on a stone?"

Ahmed, smiled and replied:

"When a friend hurts us, we should write his deeds in the sand, where the winds of forgiveness can blow it away, and when a friend does something good, we should engrave it in stone, where it shall remain for eternity."

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND,

AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE

Just as much as you would like to be forgiven on the Day of Judgement, forgive that much. (Hazrat ILYAAS(R.A.)

Abdullah bin Umar(R.A.) says that the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said, that he should do favour to one, who does a favour to him; and if there is nothing to give, he should pray for him and take it, that he has given a return for the favour. (TIBRANI; NISAI)

Usama bin Zaid(R.A.) has reported that the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said, that the return for the favour of the benefactor can be made by praising him. One who says: "May Allah give you a better reward " has done, what is needed for praise. (TIRMIZI).
